Mockingjay

Yep.  Read the last book.  It was good.  I liked the first one of the series best.  I'm looking forward to seeing the movies.  I taught Deathwatch this year.  Did wither of you use that in tutorials at Landmark?  My students loved it.  I also taught Ender's Game.  The Hunger Games will probably be a good one to teach sometime in the future.  I wish I could have really focused on the last hundred pages or so of this final book especially since Missy said it was so good.  I ended up reading it in fits and starts.  The first two books I read when Phil was out of town on a business trip to Chicago, so I was able to have silence in the house.  When he isn't home I don't turn on the tv, I read, do crosswords, go to bed early and generally just live like a very old woman.  I love it.  When he is home, I get distracted; tv, chatting, dinner...

  1. I am glad you liked the series. They were super quick reads so I thought they would be a good filler, not to mention that they were good. I did teach Deathwatch and Ender's Game at LMK. Students liked them both. I plan to use Hunger Games with my class next year here at school. Easy reads, but enough to get the kids interested. I had read the first book and found a lot of ways to connect it to historical units and even current events.

I love having alone time too, totally identify with that. Not that I don't like having Chad's company too, but I like the ability to decide what I want to do with down time instead of what WE want to do. Doesn't happen often, but I know what you mean. Glad you got that you time.

  2. You are so good. Making historical connections... My first instinct was to look on Prestwick House and see if anyone had made a unit yet. lol.
