Emo Octavius

So, I am in the middle of the section documenting the rise of the young Octavius/Octavian. From the lucky (not so lucky?) adoption by his dead great uncle, this teenager was all of a sudden so powerful. I like the way the author paints the portrait of this "man" because the way she describes him makes him sound so very, very young. We all work with teenage boys on a regular basis and Octavius is such a teenage boy! I find some comfort in that the characteristics of impulsiveness and aggression (and yes, I am stereotyping here) have lasted throughout the ages. The juxtaposition of him against the 40+ Marc Antony is just so interesting.

My thoughts for today. :)

Now I'm on a Roll (through 218)

I drove my parents to the airport this morning and I have had a quiet day all to myself.   I have been reading all day.  I'm totally into it now.  I feel like I should be more disciplined and stop more frequently to write so we can have more detailed discussion.  I totally forget stuff so quickly and then have nothing but an impression left.  Oh well.  I hope you ladies are doing well.

The 1st section (through page 115)

I hope you have been able to start the book, Miss.  Either that or you and Chad are buff following your P90X program.  I am just starting the second section of the book.  Below is my (vague) impressions of the first section.

The First 50 or so Pages...

Well, I will add my impression of what I have read so far in the comment section, not that I think I'm going to give anything away.
I'm feeling better by the way.  I have an appt tomorrow morning with my (bitchy) Dr.  It is probably time for some meds, but I am feeling really good today so who knows, maybe I just needed to acknowledge that I was feeling really down.  Thanks for all of the support.
I hope you are feeling better Nicole.  :/

First Four Books!!

Okay, so I plugged in the 4 books that had 2 votes each on random.org.  Random.org just lets you plug in a list and it puts it in random order.  Anyway, this is how the list came out:
1.
  • Cleopatra: A Life, by Stacy Schiff

  • 2.
  • Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger

  • 3.
  • The Private Lives of Pippa Lee

  • 4.
  • One Thousand White Women: The Journal of May Dodd

  • So, let's get the books this weekend and start reading.  I've never been in a book club before.  Do we set a deadline to finish the book?   I thought maybe we could put post headings for chapters and use the comments to talk about them so we didn't spoil it for each other if one person was reading faster than say, a mom of 3 kids or something.  lol.  What do you guys think?

    uh oh

Okay. We did not have a majority on 1 book.  We have a 4 way tie.  I guess these should be our first 4 books.  I'll randomly order them.
