Cinderella Ate My Daughter

A mother's wish:

"I know that if I could imbue her with a superpower, it would be the ability to withstand the pressures of the culture around her, to be her own woman despite the potential costs: I would give her the courage of her convictions, the power to be the hero of her own story without ambivalence or fear, to embrace her gifts regardless of her body's size or shape - even if I have not been fully able to embrace mine (158)".

  1. Orenstein pretty much opened up my heart and extracted my desperate wish for my girls. After reading her book, I have conclusive evidence that there is no way I will ever see my wish come true. I can only try my best to help them navigate the nasty world of girlhood and hope for the best.

  2. I have high hopes for your girls. I know that the culture can be pretty cruching, but I think that having you as their mom is a very good thing. :)
