I really am enjoying this book. I am so interested to see where it will end up. I assume that Mitchell and Madeleine will end up coming back together. It just seems obvious that Madeleine should be with Mitchell since things with him are so easy and there seems to be this energy between them that is not there with Leonard. Still, I totally felt for her when she described what it was like to have her "fuzzaroo" at home waiting for her, depending on her. And I can certainly empathize with Leonard, who feels like a broken thing. I feel like that often and I am sure it places quite a weight on my relationships. It is hard to drag yourself out of those dark places sometimes.
One person that I could really identify with was Alwyn. When she goes to visit Madeleine after leaving her husband and son, she said that she wasn't "her" anymore. That is the part I knew 110%; I wouldn't have left my child, especially at that age, and I can't complain about my husband not being present of course, but about losing yourself, I totally get that. I am a mother and wife first, and then well...there is little of the "me" that I once thought I was left anymore. I wouldn't trade my life for anything, but I understand and struggle to regain parts of myself on a daily basis. All of my energy goes into the girls and then whatever is left at the end is consumed by my better half and I have very little left. I think that is very common. I do think it was unfair for her to bring up Leonard's illness, despite her feeling attacked.
It is hard to read about Leonard sometimes because he is so broken. In a lot of ways, I feel like Madeleine is just reaching toward a normalcy that just can't be there because of where Leonard is with his disease.
Alwyn is also an interesting character. She is clearly trying to make a stand in her life, but there seem to be no winners in the situation. Well, not yet at least.
