I drove my parents to the airport this morning and I have had a quiet day all to myself. I have been reading all day. I'm totally into it now. I feel like I should be more disciplined and stop more frequently to write so we can have more detailed discussion. I totally forget stuff so quickly and then have nothing but an impression left. Oh well. I hope you ladies are doing well.
Interesting to read about Herod. Totally thought he was gay, but he seems pretty devoted to his wife who clearly hates him. Another part that I thought was striking was how they report that Cleopatra cried and refused to eat as a strategy to keep Antony from seeing his wife Octavia. That kind of seemed beneath her to me. I wish she had just slapped him or something. His wife played a smart hand but he hadn't seen her in years and Cleopatra was actually there. Proximity seems like a strong advantage. I guess these men were having lots of sexy times. No diseases? This seems interesting since Antony and Caesar were having adulterous sexy times with lots of women including queens from other continents. No one was bringing foreign diseases? I don't know why this is a sticking point for me.
